A 47-YEAR-OLD man who failed to co-operate with a breath test after being suspected of drink driving has been banned from the road for 20 months at Selkirk Sheriff Court.
Anish Raveendran, from Galashiels, pleaded guilty to failing to provide two specimens of breath at Hawick Police Station during the evening of May 19.
Prosecutor Emma Lain told how police had been made aware from witnesses about concerns over the standard of driving of a vehicle.
They traced the accused to his address in Balmoral Avenue, Galashiels.
She said: “The vehicle was stopped for a matter no longer before the court. The accused appeared under the influence and was stumbling when walking and was slurring his words.”
But when he was taken to Hawick Police Station he was unable to provide breath samples and continually pulled off the mouthpiece.
Defence lawyer Ed Hulme said his client was employed at a petrol station in Lauder but has resigned from the post as he was set to lose his licence.
He added: “He accepts he did not try enough to give the required sample.”
Sheriff Peter Anderson told him: “What you did was very foolish.”
Raveendran was disqualified from driving for 20 months and fined £400 with a £20 victim surcharge.
