APPROVAL has been rubber-stamped for the construction of two permanent bridges to replace two temporary bridges in Hawick.

The structures are to be erected on land over the Limiecleuch Burn and the Limie Sike in Hawick.

The work, approved by Scottish Borders Council this week, will include the removal of existing stone abutments, concrete abutment installation and bridge installation.

A report in support of the application stated: “Policy seeks to ensure that only appropriate employment generating development takes place in rural areas and this proposal will ensure good quality access for transport requirements associated with the agricultural operations at Limiecleuch.

“Only distant views of the bridges would be available from publicly accessible roads and whilst it is conceivable that members of the public may have views of the site from within the local landscape, the scale and design of the bridges is not likely to attract any undue attention.

“Railings will be erected on each bridge and subject to a sympathetic colour and finish, its visual impact will be negligible.”
