RESIDENTS are being urged to help fundraise a new official tartan to help promote the rights of people with dyslexia.

Dyslexia Scotland Borders is aiming to raise £5,000 towards the first official weave of the bespoke tartan.

Created by Selkirk-based weavers Lochcarron, the six-colour tartan is intended to raise awareness and celebrate changemakers working towards a more inclusive society.

Fiona Morris, branch chair of Dyslexia Scotland Borders, said: "There is a global community of people with dyslexia who long for a sense of belonging and representation.

"As Dyslexia Scotland, we’re inviting the whole world to be part of Clan Dyslexia – to be part of our community, making dyslexia more visible, respected and included, the whole world over."

The design is based on Dyslexia Scotland’s brand palette and symbolises kids, young people and adults with dyslexia; woven in with the changemakers; all working together towards a dyslexia-friendly society.

Lochcarron, which was specifically selected to design the tartan,  has commissioned extensive works for celebrities and fashion houses including  Vivienne Westwood, Sir Sean Connery and Ralph Lauren.

Leah Robertson, managing director of Lochcarron, said: "It has been a pleasure to collaborate with Dyslexia Scotland in the design of their own tartan.

"This meaningful design represents the pursuit of a dyslexia-friendly Scotland, and we are proud to be involved in the creation of a tartan that supports such an important cause.

"We look forward to seeing the design come to life in its next chapter."
