A LOCAL dancing group has demonstrated that the future of Scottish country dancing is in safe hands after putting on an end of term celebration.

The Children’s Scottish Country Dancing Club, in Selkirk, was founded some forty-three years ago by Margaret Pritchard who, with the support of Maureen Buckley, Patricia Murray and Cathy Marr, remains the force behind the club today.

Last week’s celebration event saw the families of club members invited along to witness a dance extravaganza before the awarding of certificates and trophies.

A dance devised by the P6 and P7 girls themselves, performed in public for the first time, was particularly well received by the enraptured audience.

Music was supplied by Sam Cleland on the accordion and awards were handed out by Mrs Olive Stillie.

Thanks to the generosity of parents and several local businesses - the Selkirk Co-op, Down to Earth, Cameron the Bakers, Flower Expression, Fleece Hotel and Three Hills Coffee - who kindly donated raffle prizes, money was raised to ensure the club’s immediate future.
