SCOTLAND's best known military band will bring their tour to the Borders later this year.

The Band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland announced the launch of 'Walking With Heroes 2' earlier this week, which will see the band perform at venues in Galashiels, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.

Their 2018 tour, along with CD sales, raised thousands of pounds for Poppyscotland.

And it is hoped that more will be raised this year to support the Scottish armed forces community.

Founded in 1921, the charity has been providing life-changing support to the armed forces community and their families for nearly a century.

The symphonic wind band's main responsibility is to support the Army and ceremonial occasions in Scotland.

And this year, the band are taking time out of their busy schedule, and will finish their tour in Galashiels, with a performance at the Volunteer Hall on December 19.

Audiences are in for a surprise, with bagpipes being introduced into the band's repertoire for the first time.

As well as performing every year at the Edinburgh Military Tattoo, the band has performed all over the globe in recent years, at venues in Hong Kong, New Zealand, Germany and Canada.

Poppyscotland's head of fundraising, Gordon Michie, said: "The band's schedule is incredibly busy in 2019, but it is fantastic that they have managed to secure three dates later in the year. The tour will provide a great opportunity for music lovers to experience the unmistakable and memorable sound of Scotland's State Band."

Councillor David Parker is delighted that the collaboration between Poppy Scotland, Live Borders and the council have ensured that the band will return to the Borders this year.

He said: "It will be a fantastic evening of entertainment by Scotland's best known military band, which we hope will raise thousands of pounds for Poppyscotland."
