A NATIONAL newspaper article has heaped praise on the Scottish Borders.

A review in The Times published on March 14 urged holiday-makers to visit the region.

Katie Binns wrote: "With quiet glens and lonely bens, the Borders is the Highlands minus caravan queues, with castles and quirky museums, boutique hotels and a growing foodie scene. Forget the A9, hit the A68 instead."

Peebles, Kelso and Jedburgh featured in the article, which appeared in The Times' Alba supplement.

Binns called Peebles "charming" after visiting attractions including the John Buchan Museum and the Chocolate & Pastry School run by Ruth Hinks.

Describing the town, Binns wrote: "Time here seems to have stood still, the high street lined with mostly independent shops, including a butcher and baker, galleries and boutiques."

She dubbed the John Buchan Museum a "fascinating shrine", before hailing the Tontine Hotel, noting: "It's worth staying over in Peebles."
