JOBCENTRE bosses in Galashiels are taking their fight for a move all the way to the Scottish Government.

A recent application to relocate from New Reiver House, behind the High Street, to empty retail units on Douglas Bridge was turned down by Scottish Borders Council's planning committee.

The Department of Work and Pensions' current lease is due to run out next April.

And they were hoping to have the former Internacionale outlet renovated in time to relocate.

Despite winning the backing of the local authority's planning department, councillors on the committee sided with the concerns of opponents who wanted the empty shops retained for retail use.

This week the DWP lodged an appeal with the Scottish Government.
