AN exhibition dedicated to Hawick’s ‘Lovely Lassies’ is proving a popular draw during the town’s annual festivities.

Borders Textile Towerhouse is hosting the showcase which explores the roles of the women who take part in Hawick Common Riding.

The display features outfits, objects and images of the Cornet’s Lasses, Acting Mothers and Maids of Honour of years gone by and it is hoped that the exhibition will bring back fond memories of Common Ridings past for locals, while giving visitors an insight into the big event.

Shaureen Lammie, Live Borders Museum & Gallery Service, said: “The exhibition is already proving to be very popular, with a lot of chatting and hilarity from visitors about the fashions and some of the individuals involved in the Common-Riding!”

Shaureen also thanked those who donated objects, costume and images for this exhibition which organisers hope will lead to a larger, similar, event next year.

Anyone who has any related images or objects that they would like included in the next exhibition should contact Shaureen Lammie on 01450 377615 or email Shaureen.lammie@liveborders1.org.uk

The Lovely Lasses exhibition runs until Sunday, September 10.

Borders Textile Towerhouse is open from Monday-Saturday 10am to 4.30pm and Sunday 12noon to 3pm.
