BORDERS police are appealing for witnesses after a man was assaulted and robbed near a Jedburgh park.

The incident happened yesterday night (Thursday, September 15) at around 10.45pm on Honeyfield Road.

A man was walking towards Allerley Well Park when he was approached from behind and knocked to the ground.

During this time the victim was robbed of a two-figure sum of cash.

Inquiries are ongoing and anyone who can assist officers in tracing those responsible is asked to come forward.

Constable Andy Loughlin from the Community Investigation Unit in Galashiels said: "The victim sustained some minor injuries, during this incident, but did not require any medical attention.

"Nevertheless, he was left shaken and distressed at the theft of his money and we are keen to hear from anyone who was on Honeyfield Road late on Thursday evening and remembers seeing anything suspicious.

"At this time we do not have a description of any suspects, however, the victim believes two men were involved.

"Anyone with information that can assist with our investigation should contact police immediately."

Those with information can contact Police Scotland on 101 or alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
