AN Air Cadet from Jedburgh has been named as the best in the country.

Cadet Flight Sergeant Lauren Cardwell has been chosen as the Top Female Air Cadet in Scotland & Northern Ireland Region.

The 17-year-old, who is a Cadet at 1716 (Roxburgh) Squadron in St Boswells, will be awarded the Andrew Sash at an event at HMS Caledonia later in the year.

The Jedburgh Grammar School pupil will now go on to a series of interviews at Headquarters Air Cadet RAF Cranwell, along with Cadets from the other regions, to decide the Top Female Cadet in the United Kingdom.

Sergeant Cardwell has represented her Wing and Region at sports, travelled to Camps at Ramstein in Germany and Akrotiri in Cyprus.

She has been selected to participate in the International Air cadet Exchange in Hong Kong later this year.

Also awaiting Lauren is a Flying Scholarship at Tayside Aviation in the coming summer and RIAT 17 Summer Camp.

Last year Lauren represented S&NI Region at the ATC 75th Anniversary Reception and Church Service with HRH Duchess of Cambridge in London.
