A GALASHIELS supermarket marked a milestone moment in its educational outreach programme with primary pupils yesterday.

Tesco celebrated the 8000th participant in its Eat Happy Farm to Fork schools initiative during a visit from pupils of Howdenburn Primary School.

The youngsters enjoyed an in-store party, courtesy of the Galashiels store staff.

Part of a nation-wide initiative, Farm to Fork involves helping children learn about how their food is made and where it comes from.

They get to smell, touch and taste their way through the intriguing world of food through a series of dedicated trails in school and in store.

Lorraine Gooden, Farm to Fork Champion at Tesco Galashiels, said: “We’ve explored everything from healthy eating to sustainability and food for fuel with children from across the Borders over the last three years.

“It has been a wonderful experience for all involved and we have seen children really engage in the hands-on food trails in store.

“This is a significant moment in the project – onwards and upwards to the 10,000 mark now!”
