A FORMER café manager from Galashiels is courting business success by taking over her local coffee shop.

Claire McCall recently resigned from her job with a local pharmaceutical company to pursue her ambition of running her own business.

And this week she will finally throw the doors open at the Courthouse Coffee Shop in Selkirk’s Market Place.

Claire, who moved to Selkirk six years ago, told us: “I have always wanted to run my own café and when the chance came up to take on the Courthouse Coffee Shop I couldn’t resist.

“Becoming self-employed is a big step but I know the coffee shop well and it is in a great location with lots of loyal customers.”

Claire was manager of the Whistlestop Café in Innerleithen for more than three years.

And she believes that her experience along with her enthusiasm will provide the perfect recipe for success in Selkirk.

Claire added: “It has been non-stop since I got the keys but my plans are starting to take shape already.

“I am focussing on freshness and a wide-range of gluten- and dairy-free cakes and bakery products.

“I have already had enquiries about doing external catering as well and there are plans for plenty of pop-up events in the evenings.

“It is a really exciting time and I can’t wait to welcome in my customers.”

The new Courthouse Coffee Shop opened for the first time last Wednesday.
