SELKIRK'S recently refurbished leisure centre is set to close for a week to fix a heating fault.

From Monday, September 11 the pool and adjoining facilities will shut to allow for work to be carried out to the water tanks and the heating system.

It is hoped the repairs will lead to cooler temperatures within the centre.

Ben Lamb from operators Live Borders said: “We apologise sincerely for any inconvenience these essential works may cause.

"Unfortunately, it is estimated that this essential works will take a week to complete and Selkirk Leisure Centre will be closed for the duration.

"Following the work to the water tanks and heating system centre users will notice an improvement in the temperature within the centre resulting in a more pleasant environment.

“The work will also improve the building’s energy efficiency through the improvements to the heating system.

"We have put in place alternatives for centre users and contacting them with details.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding while we complete this work and look forward to welcoming our customers back to the centre soon.”

Parents of children who have swimming lessons at Selkirk Leisure Centre will be contacted to re-arrange lessons scheduled to take place during the temporary closure.

Users with a swim membership can still use other public pools as part of their membership.

Gym members will have access to Trifitness in Galashiels for the week of the temporary closure.

Members will also have access to the gym at Tweedbank Sports Complex.

And the majority of exercise classes have been moved to Selkirk Victoria Halls and can be booked as normal.

The caravan park at Selkirk Leisure will also be closed for the week of the essential works.

The pool is scheduled to reopen on Monday, September 18.
