The Selkirk Local Committee of Cancer Research UK presents £400 raised at its recent quiz night in aid of the Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team. The donation was a 'thank you' to TVMRT for its support of the committee's annual sponsored walk over the years.
A spokesman for the group said: "One of the biggest fundraising events that the Selkirk Local Committee of Cancer Research UK hold each year is their 20-mile Annual Sponsored Walk which usually takes place on the last Sunday each April. This event, which started in 1989, has raised over £161,000 to date for the charity and the number of walkers taking part has steadily grown from a dozen to between 60 and 70 in recent years. The committee are therefore extremely grateful for the continued support of the Tweed Valley Mountain Rescue Team who ensure that all of the walkers get off the hill safely each year.
"The TVMRT is a charity and has to raise most of the funds it requires – approximately £30,000 per annum."
