SELKIRK Rotarians welcomed one of their counterparts from India to their weekly meeting at the County Hotel last Wednesday.

Ferdous Ahmed, President of The Rotary Club of Selkirk, and club members greeted Hrushikesh K Keskar, from the Rotary Club of Kolhapur Sunrise, Maharashtra, and Assistant District Governor for Rotary District 3170.

Mr Keskar, who is head of IT Services (TUV Rheinland India) was visiting the region on business and used the opportunity to connect with Selkirk’s Rotary Club giving a talk highlighting the value of the Rotary’s global reach.

Mr Keskar said: “I welcome the opportunity to meet the members of the Rotary Club of Selkirk to speak at their weekly meeting and to share an insight of the work undertaken in the Rotary Clubs of India. Our worlds are thousands of miles apart, but so close in our ways of working to help others."

He told the work of the Rotary Club of Kolhapur Sunrise and highlighted projects which were being worked on by their members. Recognizing also the good work of Selkirk Rotary Club in the community, he emphasized the importance of international connections, working with like-minded thinkers who also value community interaction and volunteers keen to help those in need.

Mr Ahmed said: “We were delighted to have Mr Keskar as our speaker at our weekly meeting, and value the insight he gave us to the different projects being worked by Rotarians in the Rotary Club of Kolhapur Sunrise and RID 3170 in Maharashtra, Goa and Karnataka. This global organization offers a fantastic opportunity to meet very interesting people and to share our achievements in helping others."

On his visit to Selkirk, Mr Keskar was accompanied by Mr Ganesh, vice president of Hinduja Global Solutions (HGS), Selkirk’s busy call centre, and Mr Rajiv, senior general manager TUV Rheinland who also attended the meeting.
