Autumn is upon us, which means the clock change is just around the corner...

Every October, the clocks go back to give us an extra hour of daylight - and an extra hour in bed!

When the clocks change, it can be confusing as to whether your smartphone updates the time automatically or whether you need to change it manually like wall clocks, watches and digital clocks.

Here's what you need to know...

Does my smartphone change the time automatically when clocks go back?

When you wake up on October 31 2021, you will NOT need to change the time on your smartphone, because it will have automatically updated when the time changes at around 2:00am.

Living up to its name, the smartphone will know to change the time as the clocks go back, meaning you don't have to do anything.

It's pretty useful and means you can use your phone time as reference for changing your other clocks around the house.

The same goes for when you travel abroad and change time zones - your phone should automatically update.

Do smartwatches automatically update the time when clocks go back?

Smartwatches will change their time based on your smartphone, meaning most will automatically update the time alongside your phone.

Apple watches default to automatically setting the time and therefore adjust themselves to daylight saving changes and new time zones, meaning you shouldn't have to do anything.

Do fitbits automatically update the time?

Like smartwatches, fitbits will automatically update the time if synced to your smartphone or computer.

What date do the clocks change in 2021?

The clocks change on Sunday October 31 2021 at around 2:00am.

It means we will get another hour in bed just in time for Halloween and an extra hour of daylight throughout the winter months.

Clock changes always take place on the weekend in order to limit the disruption to every day life.

October's change will mark the official end of British Summer Time (BST) as we move back to GMT.
