TIKTOK will be banned from government phones amid security fears about the Chinese-owned app, according to reports.
Cabinet Office minister Oliver Dowden is understood to be set to announce details of the ban in the Commons on Thursday.
Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has been under pressure from senior MPs to follow the US and EU in banning the social media app from government devices.
SNP MP Stewart McDonald called for the devolved nations to follow suit. He said: "Glad to see this. The Scottish, Welsh and NI governments should do the same, as should local government and others working in critical infrastructure and public service delivery."
In 2020, India banned TikTok entirely, as well as 58 other Chinese-owned apps, saying they were secretly collecting data from people's phones.
Other nations including Pakistan, Jordan, Indonesia, and Bangladesh have also banned the social media app outright.
TikTok said bans have been based on “misplaced fears and seemingly driven by wider geopolitics”, saying it would be “disappointed by such a move” in the UK.
