BARELY a night goes past during the summer months where Harriers are not competing at one of the many events on offer around the country.

Locally, the Stichill 10km might not be the most established event on the circuit but still provided a stiff test for competitors on an undulating course. Winning the race comfortably was Darrell Hastie who is in fantastic form at the moment.

Not to be outdone was Kirstin Maxwell who has been running some impressive shorter time trials through the summer and she raced to victory in the ladies event.

Kirstin’s dad Ian also scooped a first place in the MV50 category.

A strong squad headed for the Corstorphine 5 mile Road race looking for some sharper speed work and were rewarded with fine performances.

In the female race, Kate Jenkins finished 2nd overall, with Anya Campbell a fine 3rd, and along with Fiona Shepherd, the girls stormed to the team prize.

Only Dave Nightingale made the trip up to Edinburgh but returned with 1st V60 prize.

Underlying his versatility, Dave Nightingale tackled the slightly longer and more daunting prospect of 69 miles in the Rat race Hadrian’s Wall Ultra.

He and former Gala Harrier Carole Fortune completed the gruelling event in 14 hours 51 minutes.

The accolades in the event continued with Marcus D’Agrosa finishing a magnificent 2nd place overall in a super quick 10 hours 33 minutes, a fine achievement in his first ultra event.
