IN blazing sunshine, Gala Harriers travelled in numbers to two of the biggest events of the weekend.

In Newcastle, six Harriers made the trip south to take on the largest half marathon in the world.

Whilst Mo Farah stormed to a record third win in a row 57,000 others also took to the roads towards South Shields soaking up the fantastic atmosphere. First home for Gala was Darrell Hastie who possibly got caught up in the moment and went out a bit too quickly but still managed an impressive 1.14:44.

Not too far behind was Marcus D’Agrosa who was happy with his 1.19:14 given recent injury problems.

Dave Nightingale was running in his 20th Great North Run (an amazing achievement in its own right) and clocked 1.46:11.

Next home was Jakki Stewart in 2.01:42 and not too far behind were Vicky MacDonald (2.20:05) and Elaine Johnston (2.24:19).

Three Harriers also travelled North to take part in the Scottish 10km champs in Stirling.

The field was extremely strong with over 800 finishers and conditions were pretty good with just a bit of a breeze which of course was right in the face for the only hill on the course just before 9km when everybody was already really hurting.

Faisal Khursheed finished in a great time of 35:43 but was a tad disappointed having maybe set off a bit too quickly.

His time was still good enough for 2nd U17 male and there will be plenty of opportunities for him to improve that time in the future.

Kirstin Maxwell managed to equal her seasons best of 38.25, which she was satisfied with. Eileen Maxwell was also pretty happy with a seasons best of 47.46.
