EARLSTON High School hosted several cracking derby matches over the course of the weekend entertaining Selkirk High on the hockey field and Kelso High on the rugby turf.

The grass pitches saw hockey action from S1 and S2 and a very high standard of play, considering the lack of experience.

Earlston emerged victorious at S1, with Selkirk edging the S2 contest 4-3.

On the astro surface, the games were much slicker with Earlston S3 deserved winners by 4 goals to 1.

Imogen Dawson, Anna Changleng, Mia Pressley and Lara Howard were goal-scorers and also the cutting edge for the hosts.

At 1st X1 level, Earlston opened the scoring in the first five minutes, but could not add to their tally and Selkirk scored a deserved equaliser to share the spoils in a highly entertaining encounter.

The home Wasps XVs dominated the rugby matches with five wins from five against Kelso.

The Earlston pitches saw the S1 handle particularly well and their use of the wide spaces saw an accumulated 13 tries.

S2 had a much tighter affair, with early scores for Kelso cancelled out by a barn storming Sam Derrick led XV and a 21-17 home win.

The best match of the morning was over in Melrose at U16 level with the Wasps XV winning 31-22 against a Kelso XV who had been unbeaten in the last three years.

Early exchanges suggested the visitors would sneak the final result, but it was the Wasps who drew the sting and countered with 5 excellent tries. To complete the day, Wasps U18 won through 69-0 in a one sided affair versus Kelso Harlequins.
