IT'S been a month of champions at Gala Amateur Swimming Club.

Over the past three Monday evenings the club's annual championships were competed for at Galashiels Swimming Pool.

This is always a fantastic opportunity for all swimmers to show off their skills over all stroke disciplines.

And also their chance to throw their hat or swimming cap into the ring for the honour of being crowned Club Champion.

This year’s championship rounds were well contested over three frantic nights of swimming that saw most age group categories go down to the wire on the last night.

Monday, November 6 saw the Butterfly and IM rounds.

The following week was the Breaststroke and Backstroke.

And on Monday, November 20 races culminated with the Freestyle and ultimate decider on who would be crowned Club Champion for the 2017/18 season.

The evening was rounded off in superb style with the Championship Relay which consisted of six teams of five swimmers made up from the age group champions, mixed with the runners up, and then the next fasted Freestyle swimmers.

In true relay tradition, it went down to a fingertip touch on the last length to decide the winning team.

The club were fortunate to have Anne Ballantyne, the daughter of the late Ronnie Ballantyne who donated the trophy to the club, to present the trophy to the worthy winners.

The Championship Raffle was also drawn with some fantastic prizes being won. This would not have been possible without the sterling efforts of Ronnie Frizzel, Stevie and Maureen Brown not to mention all the sponsors of the various prizes.

The newly crowned 2017 Club Champions were:

Girls 8 and under - Darcie Liddle

Boys 8and under - Henry Grant

Girls 10 and under - Amy Owenson

Boys 10 and under - Henry Lynch

Girls 12 and under - Lucy D’Agrosa

Gala ASC would like to thank all parent helpers, volunteers, coaches and pool staff for all their help over the three Championship nights. Without them such an event could not be held.
