Gala YM 0

Berwick 73

Joe Dickson at Netherdale

GALA YM met Berwick at Netherdale on Saturday and the difference in play from East 1 to East2 showed as the visitors ran 11 tries past a gutsy home side to coast into the final.

Berwick attacked from the off and went ahead with a try after five minutes.

And then repeated it after ten - both tries were converted despite the howling gale.

YM had a purple patch for the next 15 minutes, pinning Berwick into their own 22, but they could not break a very resolute defence.

Before the break Berwick had rattled in a further two converted tries and at 28-0 were virtually out of sight.

YM had control of play at the start of the second half without breaking through the strong Berwick defence.

And then the floodgates opened.

In a one-sided last half hour, Berwick cut loose and showed their class.

They ran in seven excellent tries from their speedy backs - five converted to complete the rout.

To their credit YM kept trying to the end and wish Berwick well in the final against Hawick Quins.

Iain Ross was the pick of the YM players for their man of the match.

YM have no game this week because of the 6 Nations games.
