SPORTING achievement will come to the fore once again next month when Live Borders hosts the sixth annual Celebration of Sport Awards at the Volunteer Hall in Galashiels.
The Awards, introduced in 2013, recognise the individuals, teams and events that are helping to drive forward sporting excellence and participation across the region.
The event is once again being supported by main sponsors GB Technologies, whose continual backing has ensured that the event has went from strength to strength since its inception.
Mark Moncrieff, managing director of the Galashiels-based company, said: “These Awards not only recognise the wealth of talented sportsmen and women we have in this region but they also play a role in highlighting the amazing coaches, teams and events that are helping to raise both the standard and profile of sport here in the Scottish Borders.
“GB Technologies are proud to continue our sponsorship of this event which both recognises excellence and rewards those who strive to meet their goals.”
The Awards highlight the wealth of sporting and coaching talent that exists across the region from individual and team performances to coaching abilities, sporting events and services to sport.
Having been held in the east and west of the region since its inception the Awards ceremony and gala dinner is this year heading to a more central location and will take place on Friday, March 23 at the Galashiels venue.
The event itself will feature 11 categories including Sports Personality of the Year and the induction of two of the region’s sporting greats into the Borders Sporting Hall of Fame.
The Borders public also have a chance to get involved as two of the Awards will be decided by a public vote.
Ewan Jackson, chief executive Live Borders commented: “Here at Live Borders we firmly believe in, and endeavour to advance, the power of sport to promote health and fitness in the local community as well as developing tolerance, respect and social inclusion.
“In many ways these awards recognise the importance of these values and allow us the opportunity to showcase what can be achieved by endorsing them at all levels.”
This year the two public vote categories, Team of the Year and Sports Personality of the Year, will take place through coupons in the Border Telegraph and on the Live Borders Facebook page.
More details on the nominees for these Awards will be revealed in the coming weeks.
Tickets for the Celebration of Sport 2018 are priced at £35 and include a three-course meal.
