MELROSE stand-off Jason Baggott has realised a dream and signed a pro-contract with Edinburgh.

South African Baggott celebrated the lucrative move by drop-goaling a final-minute conversion to seal the win over Stirling County on Saturday at The Greenyards.

Jason said: “I am very chuffed about it.

"I have been working on my aim of becoming a professional player for a good few years now - to get a shot is good.

"I will keep on training and try and get a place in the team.”

Baggott, who has been at Melrose for three years, added: “I have been trying to get a professional contract for some time and I have learned a lot at Melrose.

"I am looking forward to the new challenge.”

Baggot dropped-goaled the conversion to add the extra points from Iain Moody’s try.

And he is expected to be back in action against Hawick in Premiership on Saturday.

“The outcome will not affect us, but it will be good preparations for the play-offs,” he added.
