ALAN McMath was once again the hero for Peebles Rovers, as his 90th minute strike rescued Ger Rossi’s team a point at Stirling.

Tony McGuire netted for the home side after just 15 minutes to leave Rovers with an uphill battle in the first-half.

With the experienced figures of Colin Smith, Michael McEwan and Ray Fleming all missing, a fresh-faced Rovers side did well to dominate the game.

But that domination counted for very little in the first-half as they struggled to make the most of attacking opportunities.

A heavily water-logged pitch complicated matters further, as a forward line of Mackay, Zavaroni and McMath battled for an equaliser.

The midfield duo of Ross and Gregor Lamb shined once more as their precise passes looked to break through a stubborn Student defence.

Returning hero Donovan Ndiweni was back in a Rovers strip to compensate for the losses of that experienced trio – adding a sparkle to the Rovers attack with his wizard-like runs from out wide.

However, the first-half wasn’t to produce anything of great note after such a quick start – with Jack Smith and Alan McMath having the best chances.

The second-half was to be a brighter affair, with Gregor Lamb popping up to stab home the equaliser on 62 minutes.

With renewed hopes, Rovers battled on in an attempt to extend their lead.

However, it proved to be a bizarre five minute spell – Stirling taking the lead through Collins on 75 minutes before going down to ten men just a few moments later.

However, it was to be a dramatic finish to the game as McMath burst through to fire home a magnificent finish off his chest deep into the final minutes of the game.

It wasn’t a result that Rossi would have wanted, but a point was a respectable result.

Peebles Rovers now look ahead to their match against Ormiston on Sunday (March 18), 12:15 Kick-off.
