Civil Service Strollers 4

Vale of Leithen 0

VALE of Leithen's survival hopes were dealt a blow on Saturday, as the Innerleithen side lost 4-0 in the capital.

A brace from Mark McConnell and strikes from Steven Froude and David Churchill ensured the Strollers collected all three points.

McConnell opened the scoring nine minutes in.

A cross into the penalty area was headed into the six yard box, before the 24-year-old midfielder got his head on the ball to knock it past Ross Gilpin.

Civil Service had a few good chances to build on their lead.

Scott Clapperton smacked the post and the Vale keeper kept out Jack Downie.

But against the run of play on 25 minutes, Chris Anderson's side had a good shout for a penalty when Jordan Finnie appeared to be fouled by the Strollers goalkeeper, however the referee waved play on.

The home side however increased their lead on 36 minutes, when Churchill prodded home from a good cross.

The visitors brought on Cameron Dawson after the break as they looked to get something out of the game.

But on 50 minutes the Stollers were three up, when McConnell again headed in from an Andy Mair cross.

And it was four just 10 minutes later when Steven Froude fired into the net.

Vale of Leithen unfortunately could find an answer in the remainder of the game.

They are set to face Edusport Academy tomorrow (Wednesday) at Victoria Park.

Kick off is at 6.30pm.

Vale: R Gilpin, A Lewis (C Dawson HT), T Patterson, A Smith, S Lynch, A Hunter, S Stewart, K Allan, J Finnie, L Smith, B Raiker (S Alexander 65).
