GALA Fairydean Rovers are delighted to announce that Welsh Curran is the new manager of the club's Amateur team.

Welsh replaces the outgoing Mike Riddell who has had to stand down due to work commitments.

The former Gala Rovers, Gala Fairydean and Gala Fairydean Rovers player is also the vice-chair of and a coach in the club's Football Academy.

And he was voted the Amateur team's Player of the Year last season.

Fairydean Rovers chairman Chairman Keven Temple told us: "Everyone at the club is delighted that Welsh has agreed to take over from Mike.

"Welsh has spent the vast majority of his superb playing career here at Netherdale and we know that he will have our Amateur team playing an attractive style of passing football. As a player he has been exceptional and we are sure he will be a fantastic coach.

"The club would like to put on record our gratitude to Mike Riddell who is stepping down from the role. Mike took our Under 17s team from two seasons ago and built a fantastic team around that core of young, local boys.

"He exceeded all our expectations by getting the club to three cup finals in his first season and narrowly missing out on promotion by a single point."
