LOCAL athlete Darrell Hastie has been crowned British Masters 5K Champion following an impressive run at the weekend.
The Gala Harrier won the British Masters Athletics Federation 5K at Horwich, Lancashire, crossing the line in a time of 15.31 - two seconds ahead of his closest rival Nick Jones of Warrington AC.
The event took place at Horwich Leisure Centre on Sunday as part of the Horwich Festival of Racing.
His win continues a successful season for Darrell which has seen him represent the East of Scotland for the Inter Counties Cross Country at Loughborough for the third time in four years.
Darrell also secured a win in the Jedburgh half marathon, second place in the Les Allcorn 10K in Alnwick, and ran a highly competitive cross country season.
