Peebles 17
Gala 14
FRIDAY'S Border League fixture was more about blowing away the cobwebs than putting down any markers for the season ahead.
And with an agreement between the teams to play four 20-minute quarters as opposed to two halves of 40, it was difficult to gauge the potential of either side as continual changes to personnel prevented much in the way of fluency.
Both team used the match to blood several new faces.
Gala's points came from Martin Christie and Josh Irvine tries with Dean Keddie landing both conversions.
The Maroons are on the road again this weekend when they face Kirkcaldy.
Gala: M Christie, C Keen, T Logan, J Watson, C Weir, J Irvine, S Cairns, K Brown, L Johnston, D Keddie, J Turnbull, R Jeffrey
G Speirs, J Frew & R Cooke. Reps: S Patterson, J Easson, A Emond, B Reavely, D Broatch, I Ross, G Hamilton, D Nicholson, B Reid, J Pitt & G Dun.
