IRISH striker Ruari Paton scored a hat-trick on his fist ever start in the Scottish Cup to help Gala Fairydean Rovers to a 6-0 drubbing of Lossiemouth.

The 18-year-old Dubliner, who is on loan from Hibernian, bagged a brace inside the opening ten minutes before grabbing his third with quarter of an hour remaining.

Paton said: “I am absolutely thrilled to get the goals.

“The whole team put in a big shift today and when the chances came along we took them.

“I know what the Scottish Cup means to teams like Gala and it’s huge for us to get into the second round.”

Tommy Paterson, Sean McKirdy and Dale Baxter also netted for Dean Shanks’ team.

Ross Allum netted twice as East Stirlingshire won 4-1 at Huntly.

Drew Ramsay and Andy Rodgers were also on target for Shire at Christie Park, with Alex Jack scoring the consolation.

A last-minute David Churchill strike salvaged a replay for Civil Service Strollers against Forres Mechanics.

An Alan Laird double had given the Mosset Park side a 2-1 advantage going into the final minutes.

Relieved Strollers boss Gary Jardine said: “I thought we deserved our first half lead but they came back strong in the second half.

“It was relief when Churchy got the equaliser and we can look forward to the replay next week.”

Sean Brown scored twice as Cumbernauld Colts left Burntisland Shipyard with a 4-1 victory.

Stephen O’Neil and Fraser Team also netted for the Broadwood side.

Dalbeattie Star held Kelty Hearts to a goalless draw at Islecroft Stadium, but Gretna got the better of nine-man Vale of Leithen by three goals to two after David Bonnar and Ainslie Hunter were red carded.

A Kevin Keane goal was enough for Whitehill Welfare to progress with a 1-0 win over Edinburgh University.

And there was joy for Coldstream who returned from Styrathspey Thistle with a 2-0 win.

Phil Bright scored both goals for Jonny Fairbairn’s team.
