Gala YM 27

Penicuik 21

Joe Dickson at Netherdale

GALA YM came away with a three try blitz in the last quarter to claim a bonus point win over Penicuik in East Division 2 at Netherdale on Saturday.

The home team were trailing by 21 points to eight with just 20 minutes left on the clock.

But perseverance eventually paid off.

Penicuik got off to a great start catching YM's defence sleeping to score a converted try.

YM pinned Penicuik back for a long spell in their 22 during the opening 20 minutes but could not crack the visitors' defence.

A smart move by Penicuik sent their speedy winger racing away to score another converted try for a 14 point lead.

YM lost Declan Broatch to the bin but they tightened their belts to take play to the Penicuik line.

And from a five metre scrum Shane Kellett picked up and dived over for the try to get them on the scoreboard.

To add to YM’s woes Kevin Andison joined his team-mate the sin bin.

Short handed YM did well to hold the visitors to 5-14 at the break.

Lachlan Johnston cut the lead early in the second half with a penalty goal.

And a forward pass denied Penicuik a third try.

But just a few minutes later good backing up gave them another converted score.

YM started to get on top as the second half wore on and play was mainly in the Penicuik half.

Good work by the forwards saw Andrew Mitchell score an unconverted try.

YM were back with a chance and as they pressed hard they were rewarded with a third try from Scott Chapman.

Lachlan Johnston converted from near the touchline.

Only one point in it now - YM saw victory beckoning and went for it.

A neat break through on the half way line saw Daniel Nicholson race away to score under the bar for the bonus point.

Lachlan Johnston added the extras.

YM kept hold of the ball to seal victory in the closing minutes.

Man of the Match went to Blair Reavely for some great forward play.

This week YM are away to Edinburgh University Medics.
