Edinburgh Uni Medics 24

Gala YM 27

Joe Dickson at Peffermill

FOR the second week running, Gala YM left it late to gain a bonus point win in the East Division 2 game at Peffermill.

This week it was against the University Medics.

YM played into the strong gusty wind in the first half and after just eight minutes they were seven points down after the home side crashed over for a converted try.

Medics kept up the pressure and were rewarded with another converted try and 14 point lead.

Good pressure by YM got them on the scoreboard when Kevin Andison dived from a ruck on the line.

The conversion fell foul of the gale.

YM were scrummaging well and began to turn the screws - and after twice being held up over the line Graham Dun squeezed over in the corner.

The conversion again was blown wide by the wind, and the teams turned round with Medics ahead 14-10.

YM now had the wind in their favour and used it well to pin Medics back.

But it was the home side that had the next score.

A speculative kick over the YM defence bounced badly and Medics got an unconverted try.

YM came at the visitors and from a ruck on the line Kyle Ramage crashed over to cut the lead to four points.

Medics got their bonus point try when slack tackling by YM let them in again.

YM came racing back to take play to the Medics line and Kyle Ramage went over again for the bonus point.

YM only needed a try to win with five to go and a break from the 10 metre line by Andrew Mitchell saw him draw the the full back to send Steven Patterson running away to score the winner.

Scott Chapman added the extras.

Kyle Ramage was YM’s man of the match.

This week YM are at home to Dunbar.
