A PEEBLES cyclist came within a wheel's length of landing a medal at the Youth Olympics in Argentina.

Anna McGorum, along with Team GB partner Harriet Harnden, finished fourth overall in the Women's Combined event.

The 17-year-old member of Peebles Cycling Club finished down in 28th in the road race with partner Harriet also failing to score any points in 20th.

But the duo soon made up ground in their preferred Cross Country Eliminator and Cross Country Short-Circuit races.

Despite further good racing in the Criterium, the British pair had to settle for fourth behind champions Denmark, silver-medallists Austria and third-placed Hungary.

A total of 42 athletes between the ages of 14 and 18 made up Team GB in Argentina during the 12 days of competition.

Anna, who is supported by Clubsport Tweeddale, is due to return to Scotland this weekend following the closing ceremony.
