AFTER a five week winning streak in East Division 2, Gala YM crashed to defeat at Bangholm on Saturday against Trinity Academicals with a much depleted team due to injuries and work commitments. Nevertheless, the youngsters who made up the team played their hearts out and it took a try in injury time to make the result look better for the home side.

YM took early play to Trinity and penned the home side into their 22 after a good run by Cammy Finlayson.

Trinity used the breeze to kick their way down into the YM half and the took the lead with a penalty.

The home side stretched their advantage with an unconverted try when one of their big forwards broke a tackle to rumble over.

Gala YM rallied and after a long spell on the Trinity line newcomer Daniel Kerr dived over for an unconverted try.

YM lost Tom Smith with a hamstring injury and Gavin Hamilton came on as sub.

Trinity scored another unconverted try in the corner to open up the gap.

Just on half time Shane Kellett charged down a kick on the halfway line and dribbled the ball towards the posts. He collected the bounce and touched under the bar.

Scott Chapman added the extras and YM were only one point adrift.

YM lost Shane Kellett to a leg injury and the last sub Gregg Douglass came on.

A penalty goal and then a converted try for Trinity saw them stretch away as the YM were tiring due to bigger home forwards in the scrums.

But Gala did have a good spell and there were some close calls on the Trinity defence but they could not break through.

Unfortunately Trinity scored their bonus point try in injury time to finish off the scoring.

Anyone of half a dozen players could have got man of the match for YM but it went to Daniel Kerr who had a fine debut.

This week YM are at home to Berwick in the Border Shield.
