A Jack Hay hat-trick sealed Newtown’s first ever Wright Cup victory in style.

The former Gala Fairydean, Vale of Leithen and Coldstream striker scored the goals all the second half as the Villagers won 8-1 against Kelso Thistle at Greenlaw.

Neil Macvicar grabbed two and Louis Blacklock, Matt Scott and Andrew Crawford also got on the scoresheet.

New side Tweedmouth Harrow also made history by beating their Northumberland rivals Highfields United 7-2 to win their first Collie Cup.

Former East of Scotland players Jonny Simpson and Martyn Tait both scored hat-tricks, with Robin Brown adding another.

Hawick Waverley boss Mick Hope believes his side can defend the Quintet, as they thrashed Jed Legion to make the Border Cup final.

Taylor Hope scored five goals in the 7-2 win alongside a Dean McColm strike and an own goal. Ash Langford and Nathan Gillie hit consolations for Jed.

Mick Hope said: “I feel we have the squad to go on and defend the five trophies from last season but its not going to be easy.”

Earlston Rhymers' match at Tweedmouth Amateurs in Division B was abandoned after Rhymers player Joe Thomson suffered a broken leg.

An Earlston spokesman said: “Everyone at the club wishes Joe a speedy recovery.”

Des Sutherland made it an incredible 17 goals in his last four games as Langlee Amateurs claimed six wins from six matches in Division B.

Sutherland bagged five goals, with Langlee thumping Hawick Legion 7-1 at Wilton Lodge Park.

Liam Wallace and Mike Macauley completed the scoring as struggling Legion lost for the fourth time in their last five games.

Martin Gibson also scored five as Gala Fairydean Rovers claimed a much needed 9-3 win over Hawick Legion Rovers in Division C. Brem Kirk also notched a treble in the high scoring match.

Tweeddale Rovers Colts remain pointless at the bottom of the league but they pushed St Boswells all the way before losing 2-1. Lewis Swan scored the Colts’ solitary goal.
