SIX-try hero Darren Clapperton was rightly applauded off the park on Saturday after almost single-handedly demolishing the hosts.

The flying centre scored his first inside the opening five minutes after accepting a pass from full-back Bithray.

The full back went from provider to scorer just a few minutes later after Nixon had broken through the defence.

Aaron McColm's conversion made it 12-0 inside the opening 10 minutes.

Scott Anderson responded for the hosts to make it 12-5.

But the fluent Selkirk backline was in full flow again approaching the quarter hour with Pettie and then Clapperton both finishing off good moves.

Despite Selkirk having the bonus point wrapped up inside the opening half hour, Kirkcaldy hit back with a quickfire brace of tries.

Conar Littlejohn and Josh Laird touching down for the Beveridge Park side.

But Clapperton claimed his first hat-trick on the stroke of half time after winning the race for Calum McColm's grubber kick.

Aaron McColm's conversion gave Selkirk a 29-17 half-time lead.

Remarkably Clapperton ran in a further three tries in the space of eight minutes at the start of the second half - one of them converted - to stretch the advantage to 48-17.

Shell-shocked Kirkcaldy did score a couple of late tries to earn a bonus point.

But it was Selkirk who were to have the last word with Nichol breaking through the line late to add a ninth try.

Bithray converted for a final score of 55-36.
