GALA A travelled to Philiphaugh on Friday night to take on Selkirk A in the newly formed Border Junior Cup and dominated throughout, scoring seven tries in the process.

The visitors attacked from the kick off and after a few rucks on the home line, Andrew Brown crashed over for an unconverted try.

Gala kept up the pressure and scored a similar try to the first, this time Jack Chambers getting the touchdown.

Selkirk started to get some possession and Gala’s defence had to be at its best to keep them at bay.

A Selkirk knock on saw Gavin Young grab the ball and kick it up the touchline and he outpaced the cover to score in the corner.

Just before the break Gala pressure sent Declan Broatch racing over for the bonus point try and as the fog descended Cammy Finlayson added the extras for a 22-0 lead at the interval.

Gala rang the changes for the second half and play was pretty even for along spell before good handling sent Daniel Nicholson racing away to the posts for the fifth try.

Cammy Finlayson converted.

Gala were turning the screws now and there were several close calls on the Selkirk line before John Frew shrugged off a tackle to score.

Cammy Finlayson added the extras from wide out.

In the closing minutes, Gala battered their way at the Selkirk line and Jamie Dewar got the final try.

Cammy Finlayson converted.

Gala’s man of the match went to Finlay Rutherford. Gala have only Hawick Harlequins to play to finish their section.
