GALASHIELS boxer John McCallum has been training with the Eubank brothers to help him prepare for his bout this weekend.

The 30-year-old is set to take on Northern Ireland’s Casey Blair for the Celtic Light Heavyweight title in Fife on Saturday.

And he has been putting in the hard work over the past few months.

McCallum told the Border Telegraph: “I can’t wait to get into the ring.

“My preparations have been going very well and I am learning new technical skills all the time.

“I have been focussing on traditional boxing skills, not just power and strength.

“I have also been sparring with the Eubank brothers – Chris and Sebastian – down in Guildford over the past few months and I feel like I am in the best shape of my life.”

The bout is set to take place at the Gilvenbank Hotel in Glenrothes – a venue he knows well.

McCallum defeated London fighter Duane Sinclair there last year in his first fight back after an 18-month absence due to a shoulder injury.

And he is confident he can put in a good performance against ‘The Guv’nor of Middleton’ Blair, who hails from Bangor, County Down.

He added: “I have had a lot of help from coach John Edwards. He has been working with me down south as I prepare for the fight.

“I have been pushing myself to new limits each day.

“Hopefully I can put on a good show again for everyone.”

Tickets for Saturday’s event at the Gilvenbank Hotel in Glenrothes are on sale now at £60.

The cost includes a three-course meal as well as entertainment from special guest Idris Virgo, who appeared on the ITV hit show Love Island last summer.

The event will start at 7pm.
