Trinity Accies 31

GALA YM hosted their bogey team Trinity Academicals at a wet and windy Netherdale on Saturday.

And they had a nightmare of a match where nothing went right and as frustrations crept in, the penalty count against them rose to unacceptable levels.

Trinity took an early lead with a penalty goal after only five minutes.

The next ten minutes saw YM pressing deep in the visitors half but could not get on the scoreboard.

Trinity added to their score when a clever dummy sent their centre through to the posts for a ten point lead.

The rest of the half saw both teams cancelling each other out with defences on top, before Trinity kicked their second penalty on half time for a 13 point lead.

YM took play to Trinity at the start of the second half and after several close calls, Ben Reid crashed over under the bar.

Adam Williams added the extras and YM were back in the game.

As time ticked away YM's penalty count rose and twice Trinity took advantage by slotting the kicks.

It meant YM had to score two converted tries to win.

YM had been warned that somebody would go the bin if the penalty count continued and when they lost hooker Ryan Patterson to yellow, Trinity took full advantage with a try in the corner.

With minutes to go Trinity used the extra man to run in a third try which was converted .

On the plus side YM did well to stop the visitors getting their bonus point try.

Declan Broatch got YM’s man of the match award.

No games this week and then YM go to Langholm for their last league game.
