THERE was agony for two Borders athletes at the Scottish Road Running Championships.

Gala Harrier Gregor Collins narrowly missed out on a medal in the Boys Under 15s race at Ingliston, near Edinburgh.

The teenager crossed the line in fourth, just six seconds behind winner Lucas Cairns of Inverness and three seconds off third place.

A total of 80 athletes completed the two-and-a-half miles course with Iain Houston the second Borders athlete home in 38th.

It was almost as tight for Teviotdale Harrier Eilidh Jaffray, who finished fifth in the Under 17s Girls race - just six seconds outside the medals.

A total of 35 runners completed the longer three-and-a-half miles course.

In the Boys Under 13s race, which had 111 athletes from across the country on the starting line, Irvine Welsh from Teviotdale Harriers was first local home in 26th, two places in front of Gala Harrier Archie Hendry.

Lewis Tharme was first Borderer home in the Boys Under 17s, crossing the line in 14th.
