Dalbeattie Star 1

Vale of Leithen 1

A COUPLE of missed chances in the closing stages didn't spoil Vale's end of the season journey to Dalbeattie.

With both teams assured of safety in the Lowland League for next season, the match was played at a canter beneath the Galloway sun.

Ross Green did well after quarter of an hour to beat Ross Gilpin from inside the area.

But Liam Ireland did just as well to rifle home an equaliser in the 31st minute.

Although both teams had chances during the second half the best opportunities fell to Vale in the final 10 minutes.

But Chris Anderson's team couldn't find the net for a second time.

The manager told us: "The match had that end-of-season feel to it and I think a draw was a fair result.

"We could maybe have sneaked it at the end with some chances but we're happy enough with the point.

"It's been a difficult season for us but to finish on 29 points isn't a disgrace."
