ONE of Scotland's oldest rugby clubs is appealing for a final push ahead of its vital fundraising Sevens tournament later this month.

Established in 1884 and a founding member of the SRU, Walkerburn Rugby Football Club has a venerable history.

Generations of boys and young men have aspired to play for their home club.

But, in common with many sporting clubs, recent years have presented challenges both on and off the field.

Although Walkerburn has a hard-working and pro-active committee - the Caberston Haugh club is still in need of help ahead of their annual Sevens on Saturday, May 25.

President Bob Haddow said: "Having experienced some technical difficulties, we are concerned that we have not been able to reach all our usual sponsors.

Anyone with an interest in sponsoring should get in touch.

"Likewise anybody with a few hours to spare on the day who would like to volunteer their time would also be made very welcome.

"There are many different tasks to be done and willing bodies are the backbone of the Sevens.

"We have a fantastic number of visiting teams who have confirmed their attendance.

"With the usual amazing support of the local community, we are looking forward to a great day of exciting sport."

Anyone who can volunteer on the day or provide valued sponsorship should contact either Bob on 07749348045 or Ruth at treasurer@walkerburnrugby.org.uk
