ALMOST 100 players and supporters attended the Peebles Rugby Club dinner last week.

Members of the Firsts, Reds and Colts were out in numbers, demonstrating the growing strength of the club this season.

Peebles Chairman, Richard Johnson, compered the evening, providing insight into the progress made at all levels.

Biggar’s own Al Stewart delivered the address to the club, including views on Scottish Rugby and revealing his statistical knowledge.

Perhaps, most importantly he revealed that in the Peebles against Biggar derbies, it was Peebles who were ahead in the won/lost column over the years by eight games.

David Wills replied on behalf of the club in his role as Vice Captain.

David provided observations on performances over the season, including some up close insight on some of his teammates. Maybe too close at times!

Andrew Kerr, representing Melrose RFC, reminisced, on the great Melrose teams of the 90s, including the legendary Jim Telfer Sunday training sessions. Although attendance at the Sunday sessions was entirely voluntary, woe betide the player who missed them!

Lastly retired vet Nigel Brown, also representing Melrose, who is the father of ex Scotland captain Kelly Brown, brought the evening to a close by opening with Walter Scott and finishing on the spirit of rugby.

Congratulations to Jim, Shirley, Carol and the host of volunteers and delivering a great evening.
