MORE 70 swimmers dived in on Tuesday for the annual Braw Lads Swimming Gala.

A packed out Galashiels Swimming Pool welcomed this year's Braw Lad and Braw Lass.

And they were entertained with an evening of thrilling races.

Evergreen starter Bill Cowan and announcer Robbie Czajka kept the action flowing throughout.

A warm sunny day meant that poolside more resembled the Tropics than the Borders.

And the temperatures in the pool quickly rose to boiling point as the swimmers put on a great display of racing throughout the evening, culminating in the final event which was the mixed aged group Braw Lads Relay Race.

The six teams, made up of the fastest swimmers on the night, ploughed through the water driven on by the loud and vocal support of parents and team mates only to be separated by fingertip touches.

The medal ceremony was conducted by the Braw Lad Robbie and Lass Nicola, who in turn, along with her attendants, were presented with flowers from the tournament's two youngest swimmers, Sheena Birch and Tyler Stewart.

The winning school and winners of the Douglas Brown Trophy was once again Clovenfords, in one of the closest finished in many years.

The Braw Lads Committee would like to thank The Trophy Guy for supplying the medals and the Galashiels and Langlee Community Council for the flower bouquets.

The Gala Swimming Club would also like to thank all the club volunteers and Live Borders Staff who ensured the evening ran smoothly.
