FOLLOWING on from their victory over Hamilton, Selkirk’s players turned in another solid display to overcome a young Kelso team in Saturday’s Booker Border League fixture at Poynder Park.

With the wind at their backs, the visitors took an early lead through an Aaron McColm penalty, before skipper Ewan MacDougall touched the ball down for the game’s first try.

The score, converted by McColm, came after the Selkirk pack shoved their Kelso counterparts back over their own line.

The home side cut the deficit when Mark Wilson broke through Selkirk’s defence to score an unconverted try.

Minutes later Michael Waldron touched down for the visitors, following a line-out deep in the home ‘22’, making the half time score Kelso 5, Selkirk 15.

After the break Jacob Henry stretched Selkirk’s lead by touching down under the posts, following good runs by Josh Welsh and Ross Nixon from deep in their own half.

Callum Anderson added the conversion.

Kelso hit back through a well-worked try by Craig Dods, who also kicked the conversion.

Selkirk put the game beyond the Black & Whites’ reach by scoring two unconverted tries in the space of 10 minutes – the first by Luca Merolle and the second by Donald Nichol.

A late touchdown by Kelso’s Dwayne Patterson, converted by Dods, proved the final score of the contest.
