KILBY took full advantage of the Scottish Cup weekend to close in on the Lowland League’s top teams.

But Craig Malcolm’s team had to come from behind to beat Berwick Rangers 3-2 at K Park.

A Sean Winter header on the stroke of half time cancelled out Daryl Healy’s early opener for Berwick.

Kilby rattled in two quick goals at the start of the second half through Paul Woods and Ruari Paton.

A Healy header for the visitors in the closing stages turned out to be a consolation.

In the Scottish Cup there were mixed fortunes for the Lowland League clubs.

With Kilby, BSC Glasgow and Berwick Rangers all entering the competition at the second round stage, a total of 13 Lowland teams were playing on Saturday.

Gala Fairydean Rovers won the all Lowland League clash at Dalbeattie Star.

Zander Murray, Niall Kelly and Yrick Galantes were on target in the 3-1 win.

Gala manager Neil Hastings said: “I thought we were terrific today and more than deserved the win.

“We controlled a lot of the game and took our chances when we created them.”

Gretna pulled off a shock with a 1-0 victory over Hill of Beath at Raydale.

Daniel Smales was the scorer for the home team.

And Bonnyrigg Rose are also through after George Hunter's goal gave them the same scoreline against Fraserburgh.

Stirling University came from behind to beat Keith 3-2.

Late goals from Calum Heath and Mathew Burrows along with Connor Doan's opener took the Students through.

Spartans will require a replay after being held to a 1-1 draw by Devronvale.

But there were disappointing exits for many Lowland teams.

Kelty Hearts crashed to a 3-0 defeat against Auchinleck Talbot in front of the live BBC cameras.

Vale of Leithen went down 5-0 against Fort William, Cumbernauld Colts were hammered 5-1 by Penicuik at Broadwood, and Civil Service Strollers returned from Buckie with a 4-1 defeat.

Caledonian Braves were edged out 4-3 by Rothes, and East Stirlingshire went down 3-2 against Broxburn.

There was also a 3-1 defeat for Edinburgh University against Lochee.

The second round of the Scottish Cup has resulted in one all Lowland League clash with East Kilbride entertaining Gretna at K Park.

Bonnyrigg have home advantage for their tie with Buckie, but both Berwick Rangers and Gala Fairydean Rovers head north to face Elgin City and Formartine United, respectively.

Stirling Uni will entertain Linlithgow Rose, and if Spartans can overcome Deveronvale in the replay they will hos Queen's Park.

BSC Glasgow face a tricky trip to face Lochee United.

The Scottish Cup second round matches take place on the weekend of October 19 and 20.
