Gala YM 14

Medics 57

Gala YM were taken to task by the Medics at Netherdale on Saturday, leaking nine tries to a well-drilled and fit side.

The pace of the visitors proved problems for the YM.

And poor tackling was also exposed on a day to forget for the home team.

Medics pressed from the kick off in miserable conditions and within five minutes their forwards had driven over for an unconverted try.

Poor YM tackling let them race away from halfway for a converted try and a 12 point lead just five minutes later.

YM did enjoy a good spell midway through the first half with Steven Patterson making a couple of solo breaks.

Medics also lost a prop to the sin bin as the Gala team applied pressure.

But just before the interval Medics scored a third try from a burst down the touchline.

The second half began with Medics going for the bonus point try from their flier on the wing.

The try was converted and Medics led 24-0.

YM stormed up field and got on the scoreboard after several phases as Billy Brownlee was driven over by the pack.

Cammy Finlayson converted.

Medics quickly replied, though, with another runaway converted try before YM could catch their breath.

YM kept plugging away and a slick move by the backs created an overlap for Adam Williams to race 50 yards for a fine try.

Finlayson added the extras.

In the final quarter Medics cut loose as YM tired and they scored a further four tries - three of them converted .

Jack Williamson was the YM’s man of the match.

This week YM are at home to Earlston.
