Gala 36
Boroughmuir 14
Bob Sneddon
at Netherdale
GALA shone yet again on Saturday - despite the lingering mist over Netherdale.
Although winger and regular kicker Ross Cooke was making his second appearance for Poland, his absence didn't prevent the Maroons recording yet another high-scoring victory.
Almost from the kick off Gala's rugby flowed with several eye-catching passages of play.
And the seventh minute try from Fergus Johnston ,following some fast passing phases, was deserved.
Approaching the quarter hour Euan Dods broke through the defence to send Johnston in for his second try of the match.
Ruairi Howarth's conversion gave Gala a 12-0 lead.
It was the forwards who worked hard for the third try on 24 minutes with a rolling ruck taking play towards the line for Rex Jeffrey to crash over.
The successful conversion opened up a 17 point gap.
Gala collected the four-try bonus point just after the half hour with Johnston passing to John Watson who won the sprint to the line.
Howarth's kick made it 24-0.
Boroughmuir, who had spent much of the half defending, gave themselves a little hope just before the interval as John Anderson jinked his way over the line.
Callum Anderson's kick made the half time score 24-7.
The first 20 minutes of the second half showed Boroughmuir playing a much more determined game.
But Gala's defence was up to the challenge.
And in the 61st minute a quick tap and go from Euan Dods extended the home team's lead.
His try under the posts was converted by Howarth for a 31-7 advantage.
Boroughmuir brought some respectability to the scoreline with a Jack Hamilton try.
Robin Weersma's conversion was successful.
But the home team were to have the final say.
A penalty was awarded in the second minute of injury time, and the subsequent kick to touch and line out led to Jeffrey forcing his way over for another try.
The 36-14 final score was deserved following an impressive home display.
Gala remain at Netherdale this week with Ayr the visitors in what promises to be another entertaining game. Kick off is at 3pm.
