Duns 2

A 95th minute winner by James Kerr gave Stow their best result of the season - and inflicted a blow to Duns' Division B promotion hopes.

Duns were heavy favourites going into the league match, having already won the Wright Cup and five of their first six league games, while Stow were missing a glut of players.

But in a dramatic ending to this entertaining game, Kerr rose highest to head Stow to a shock win and leave the Dingers with their first loss of the season.

Former Berwick Rangers man Dougie Brydon has been a key player for Duns this season, and his quality was evident throughout most of this match, including an early run and shot which flew across the Stow goal.

Gregor Watson had a good effort saved by Shane Elliot as Duns began to take control but at the other end Joseph Riach palmed over a thumping effort by James Runciman.

Some meaty challenges from both sides led to a tetchy end to the first half, but it was Duns who took the lead before half time when James Brydon's header from a Fraser Bunyan free kick squeezed into the bottom corner.

It could have been 2-0 before the interval but the impressive Ryan Allan made a vital block to deny James Brydon a second.

Allan turned provider at the start of the second half as his run and pass set up Fraser Jackson to draw Stow level.

Duns restored their lead just three minutes later when Sean Spoor fired past Elliot but a minute later a great pass by Hagen Steele set up James Runciman for another Stow equaliser.

Dougie Brydon almost sealed a Duns win only for his header to rebound off the crossbar, while a brilliant run by centre half Derek Chisholm ended with a shot which went just wide.

Duns right back Liam Horn was then sent off for something he said to referee Eddie Walsh, before Kerr won it with his late, late header.

Stow goalscorer James Runciman said: "We are now five games unbeaten, including four wins in that run, but that was our best performance so far this season.”
