IT was a grim afternoon in Glasgow for both players and supporters as the rain poured and the wind howled.

Thankfully the rugby brightened up the afternoon for the supporters who had travelled west from Peebles.

Not only had Peebles opened up a gap by the interval but, playing into the strong wind, they had also secured a bonus point fourth try.

Peebles were quickly into their stride and were 5-0 up after only four minutes when Keiran Brown drove over from the back of a scrum.

But Accies responded with a try of their own with Kenneth Beattie forcing his way over from a similar range.

McEwan added the conversion before also slotting a penalty to give the hosts a 10-5 advantage.

Peebles pegged their way back into the match with good kicking from Donald Anderson and Greg Raeburn.

From a line-out inside the Accies 22 Rohan Maciver picked up and drove over for the score.

Raeburn added the conversion to give the visitors the lead.

In the 34th minute Scott Stoddart burst up the left wing to score another try.

And in injury time Donald Anderson made a terrific break before kicking into the path of his brother Callum to score under the posts.

The successful conversion gave Peebles a 24-10 lead at the interval.

The travelling supporters expected more of the same after the break.

But even with the wind at their backs Peebles struggled to break down the well-organised home defence.

And the only score of the second 40 minutes came when Beattie caught everyone off-guard with a quick penalty to dive over.

McEwan added the conversion.

Although there was only a score between the teams Peebles kept Accies pinned deep in their own half as the clock ticked down.

This weekend Peebles have home advantage over Hamilton at the Gytes.
